Belgium Entrepreneur & Self-Employed Residence

Belgium offers pathways for non-EU nationals wishing to establish or operate a business, work as a self-employed professional, or relocate through qualifying employment.
Belgium Professional Card
Non-EU nationals who wish to carry out a self-employed activity in Belgium generally require a Professional Card unless an exemption applies. The application is assessed by the competent regional authority in Brussels, Flanders or Wallonia, depending on where the business activity will be established.
Highly Qualified Employment / Single Permit
Belgium also provides a Single Permit system for qualifying non-EU nationals who intend to work as employees for more than 90 days.
The Single Permit combines the applicant's work and residence authorisation, with requirements depending on the region, employment category, qualifications and salary applicable to the particular case.
This route is different from the Professional Card, which is intended for self-employed activity.
Family Residence
Eligible spouses, partners and children may be able to join the principal residence permit holder through Belgium's family reunification framework, provided the applicable conditions relating to income, housing, health insurance and family relationship are satisfied.
Pathway to Long-Term Residence
Qualifying non-EU nationals may potentially obtain EU long-term resident status in Belgium after five years of legal and uninterrupted residence, provided they meet the applicable residence, financial and other conditions.
This is not automatic simply because an applicant holds a Professional Card or business residence permit.
