UAE Student Residence Visa
The UAE Student Residence Visa allows international students to live and study in the country while enrolled at an accredited UAE university, college or educational institution. A student may be sponsored either by the educational institution or by an eligible parent who holds valid UAE residence. Universities and colleges generally assist their international students with the visa process.
The residence period is normally linked to the duration of the approved study programme and may be renewed while the student remains enrolled and continues to meet the applicable requirements. ICP guidance also provides that students may remain in the UAE for up to 180 days after completing their studies, subject to the conditions applicable to their residence status.

The visa may be suitable for:
- International students admitted to an accredited UAE institution
- Students sponsored directly by their university or college
- Students sponsored by an eligible UAE-resident parent
- School or university students continuing their education in the UAE
- Outstanding students who may qualify separately for Golden Residency
Common Requirements
Requirements vary by institution, emirate and sponsor, but commonly include:
- Admission or enrolment letter from an accredited institution
- Proof of tuition payment or active student status
- Sponsor documents, where the student is sponsored by a parent
- Medical fitness test for applicants subject to the age requirement
- Security deposit or financial guarantee, where applicable
- Additional documents requested by the university or immigration authority
The final residence validity and documentary requirements are determined by the study programme, sponsor and relevant UAE authority.
Golden Visa for Outstanding Students
High-achieving secondary-school and university students may qualify for the UAE Golden Visa under separate eligibility criteria. Golden Residency provides long-term residence for eligible applicants without requiring a traditional sponsor and may be issued for five or ten years, depending on the approved category.
